'Supporting sustainable inshore day fisheries to help conserve the coastal environment, plus more!'
Visit the Sussex Fish Finder data base
A key aim of this web site, is to enable and encourage consumers to buy fish that is from sustainable sources. Sustainable fish sources are those that cause little physical environmental damage and which have a low carbon footprint. Some of the most sustainable fish available will be locally caught from the Sussex inshore sea fishery which uses small boats that launch and return on the same day.
Buying from a local fisherman or fishmonger selling local fish rather than a supermarket, has advantages. It allows you to ask exactly by which method the fish was caught and where. Buying local fish also means that it may not have been transported far and your purchase will support the local economy directly. Fish from the inshore day fishers will usually be much fresher than most other fish supplies you can find.

Bass - a sea anglers sport fish and tasty eating
Goodfish is setting up this on line database to help provide one place where anyone can fish for fish. This could be for individuals who want to buy off the beach, restaurants sourcing fish, or those seeking local fish from a fishmonger. It is currently under construction, with a limited number of contacts so far, to test the system. It will develop further for Sussex initially and there will be an emphasis on sustainable fish. Businesses in the Coast Friendly scheme will be listed as part of their membership and others can be listed here for £4 per month set up as a standing order.
If you want to be listed in this data base please get in touch through the contact page. Click this link to see the developing database
Other Counties may also be developed in terms of a fishfinder data base if the Sussex one is successful.
